“What’s the shape of wind?”
“How can I draw more scenery?”
Questions like these offer insight into the ways kids see the world. For all of us, growth is not just about experiencing more, but rather is a process of selection and cognition.
Sun Jiayi, a well-known illustrator born in the 1990s, graduated from Central Saint Martins with a degree in illustration. She’s now active in the fields of visual arts and illustration design. At a co-creation for renewability CSR event, she met some children in one of China’s mountainous regions and taught them about art. They travelled through valleys and forests to submerge themselves in nature together. Full of artistic imagination, the children depicted what they had seen with colors like greens and blues.
“Born with reverence for nature, they seemed to have innate knowledge about how to use things available from it as tools. I was impressed when they daubed ground green leaves and grass on the yellow leaves as a form of artistic expression at the nexus of life and nature.”
The kids’ eyes shone with the most genuine yearning for beauty. With every stroke, they let their imaginations flow from their brushes. “I want to become a painter just like you,” said one of the boys. His dream drove home for Sun the significance of art education for children in remote areas.
Sun has kept in touch with the boy since their initial meeting and keeps all his drawings. The boy’s curiosity about knowledge and art evokes memories from time to time. Sun promised the boy she’d come back to draw with him in the future.
Every dream is worth being understood and cultivated. The best way to do that is by acting on them. Adventure can start anytime, anywhere in a YUKON from The Durant Guild, which features excellent performance and comfort, giving fearless doers the confidence and courage to do what matters anywhere, no matter how distant the destinations or how rough the road.
Enjoying the dramatic landscape in this full-size SUV loaded up with painting gear affords the artfully minded a sense of long-awaited freedoms. Each of the iconic models from The Durant Guild is a fearless doers best friend as they follow their dreams.
To keep her promise to the boy and offer art education in remote mountain regions, Sun Jiayi has left the city for another art education tour in a YUKON as part of the Make Your Dream Come True initiative.
